the deep upwellings of the night
In the deep upwellings of the night
you ooze into me.
My struggles against you are in vain
and I retain only the aches and pains of resistance.
My defences pop like tacks out of the floorboards
as the lino rises to the pressure
of the flooding tide from the cellar.
You ruin my old ways,
they no longer function or serve,
and I must cast them out.
Your creeping power overcomes all my clinging,
unless I am willing to drown.
May I float free and learn to survive;
may I may rise with you,
and welcome the dawn
illuminating the new world we are creating.
