The freedom in keeping still

The freedom in keeping still

The joy of waking up with your child beside you
the joy of keeping quiet so they may continue to sleep
the perfection of their breathing
the perfection of their relaxation
the completeness of their trust in you

Here is a precious few moments
when the night is done
(we are safely through)
and the day is yet to start
(with its unknown difficulties)

Here is liminal space
a freedom, a free time

the sweetness of their breathing
keeps you from drifting
the beauty of their presence
keeps you from wandering into confusion
the depth of their innocence
draws from you the purest love
of which you are capable

drink in the myriad joys of their sleeping
in some moments they will wake
in some further moments they will grow up
and go

follow it all while you can
